    Application of symmetric orthogonal multiwavelets and prefilter technique for image compression

    Multiwavelets are new addition to the body of wavelet theory. There are many types of symmetric multiwavelets such as Geronimo-Hardin-Massopust (GHM) and Chui-Lian (CL) multiwavelets. However, the matrix filter generating the GHM system multiwavelets does not satisfy the symmetric property. For this reason, this paper presents a new method to construct the symmetric orthogonal matrix filter, which leads to the symmetric orthogonal multiwavelets (SOM). Moreover, we analyze the prefilter technique, corresponding to the symmetric orthogonal matrix filter, to get a good combining frequency response. To prove the good property of SOM in image compression application, we compared the compression effect with other writers' work, which was in published literature.Facultad de Informátic

    The association of periodontal diseases and Sjogren’s syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    BackgroundThe relationship between periodontal diseases and Sjogren’s syndrome were found inconsistent in current studies. Our objective is to clarify the relationship between periodontal diseases and Sjogren’s syndrome.MethodsA systematic review was performed and reported according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Electronic databases (EMBASE, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library, from inceptions until 24 November 2021) were searched. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) were applied to evaluate the quality of studies. Quality assessment of the certainty of evidence was performed based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) guidelines. When the output is the ratio, Odds ratio (OR) of periodontal diseases with Sjogren’s syndrome were calculated. When the output is the mean, weighted mean difference (WMD) of periodontal diseases with Sjogren’s syndrome was calculated. We conducted meta-analysis and estimated the pool sensitivity. Begg’s test was used to test the possibility of publication bias. We also carried out meta-regression to clarify the source of heterogeneity (I2 > 50%). Finally, we performed a trial sequential analysis (TSA) to identify the false positive or false negative outcomes that might occur during repeated updates.Results21 studies were included in this systematic review, with a total of 11435 subjects. Meta-analysis of 5 studies showed that there is a positive correlation between periodontitis and Sjogren’s syndrome (OR = 2.12, 95% CI = 1.43–3.17; 5 studies, 6927 participants; low certainty of evidence). Meta-analysis of 16 studies showed that the periodontal condition of patients with Sjogren’s syndrome was worse compared with the control group, and the scores of clinical periodontal parameters were relatively high.ConclusionSjogren’s syndrome patients seem to be more likely to be diagnosed with periodontal diseases.     Flight training changes the brain functional pattern in cadets

    IntroductionTo our knowledge, this is the first study to use MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) before and after an intensive flight training. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of flight training in civil flying cadets.MethodsThe civil flying cadets and controls completed two study visits. Visit 1 was performed in 2019, and high spatial resolution structural image and resting-state functional MRI data were collected. The second visit was completed in 2022. In addition to the MRI data mentioned above, participants completed the cognitive function assessment at the second visit.ResultsMixed-effect regression model analysis found that flight training enhanced the degree centrality (DC) values of the left middle frontal gyrus and left lingual gyrus. The subsequent correlation calculation analysis suggested a possible relationship between these alterations and cognitive function.DiscussionThese results suggest that flight training might promote the DC value of the prefrontal and occipital cortices and, in turn, enhance their executive function

    Multifeature Detection of Microaneurysms Based on Improved SSA

    The early diagnosis of retinopathy is crucial to the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. The low proportion of positive cases in the asymmetric microaneurysm detection problem causes preprocessing to treat microaneurysms as noise to be eliminated. To obtain a binary image containing microaneurysms, the object was segmented by a symmetry algorithm, which is a combination of the connected components and SSA methods. Next, a candidate microaneurysm set was extracted by multifeature clustering of binary images. Finally, the candidate microaneurysms were mapped to the Radon frequency domain to achieve microaneurysm detection. In order to verify the feasibility of the algorithm, a comparative experiment was conducted on the combination of the connected components and SSA methods. In addition, PSNR, FSIM, SSIM, fitness value, average CPU time and other indicators were used as evaluation standards. The results showed that the overall performance of the binary image obtained by the algorithm was the best. Last but not least, the accuracy of the detection method for microaneurysms in this paper reached up to 93.24%, which was better than that of several classic microaneurysm detection methods in the same period

    Low-Speed Control of Heavy-Load Transfer Robot with Long Telescopic Boom Based on Stribeck Friction Model

    The severe low-speed creep phenomenon occurs in the telescopic boom system of a heavy-load transfer robot with a long telescopic boom as a result of nonlinear friction. In order to improve control precision and operation performance at low speeds, we built a three-loop control nonlinear model of an AC servo motor with Stribeck friction disturbance. Traditional proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID) and fuzzy PID controls were, respectively, adopted in the position loop, and the control performance was simulated. The results showed that a system with fuzzy PID control eliminates “flat top” position tracking and “dead zone” speed tracking, which are generated by traditional PID, and thereby decreases the effect of friction on the performance of the servo system. This elimination also improved the tracking accuracy and robustness of the system

    ABSTRACT The metal magnetic memory (MMM) technology, a new nondestructive evaluation (NDE) method, is an effective means for early damage prediction. However, there is so much work to do, such as the relationship between the magnetic field density and stress state. This paper aims at finding out MMM signal characteristics of critical damage stress state by tension experiments. Comparisons between MMM testing and traditional NDE method are presented. The principle of MMM testing is investigated. Different materials, low carbon steal X70 and medium carbon Q235B, are detected on-line and offline respectively. It is found that MMM signal rules are gradually increasing up to fluctuating on the verge of yield and sharp changing of magnetic polarity on the verge of fracture. With the increase in material strength, magnetic field density of low carbon steel X70 is lower than that of medium carbon steel Q235B. This offers fundamental study for the quantitative MMM testing of critical damage stress state
